Hartt Chamber Winds- October 9
|
|
|
The Hartt Wind Ensemble opens its 2009-2010
season on Friday, October 9, at 7:30 PM in Millard
Auditorium on the University of Hartford's West
Hartford campus. The Chamber Winds concert
features music from Jacob, Dvorak, and Stravinsky.
Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors,

Tribute to Fritz Moses- October 10
|
|
|
A tribute concert celebrating the life of Fredric "Fritz"
Moses, associate professor of voice at The Hartt
School and an accomplished baritone who passed
away in July, will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 7
PM, in Millard Auditorium.

Sing for the City- October 11
|
|
Choruses from The Hartt School, including The Hartt
Camerata, Hartt Chamber Choir, Hartt Choir, Hartt
Chorale, and Concentus, will be joined by local school
choruses in a festival concert to raise funds for the
Upper Albany Neighborhood Collaborative (UANC) on
Sunday, October 11, at 4:30 PM at the Cathedral of St.
Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford,
Connectcut. A minimum donation at the door is $10
and all proceeds go directly to the UANC.

Twelfth Night- October 15-18
|
|
The Hartt School presents Twelfth Night on Thursday,
October 15, Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October
17, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, October 18, at 3:00 PM.
Performances are in the Edward C. and Ann T.
Roberts Foundation Theater at the Mort and Irma
Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne
Parkway, Hartford. Admission is $20 with discounts

Hartt Celebrates: The Future of Performing Arts- November 14
|
|
|
Each year, the entire Hartt community joins together to
celebrate the performing arts at Hartt, and to ensure
Hartt's bright future. This year's spectacular event,
Hartt Celebrates: The Future of Performing Arts, will
be held on November 14, 2009, at the University of
Hartford's glorious Handel Performing Arts Center in
Hartford.
World renowned flutist Eugenia Zukerman will serve
as our Mistress of Ceremonies for this year's
fundraising gala, which will feature an elegant
opening reception and seated dinner; magnificent
music, dance, and theatre performances by Hartt
students and faculty; a diverse selection of silent
auction items; an exciting live auction; and a cabaret-
style after-party.
On November 14, join The Hartt School in welcoming
our new Dean, Dr. Aaron Flagg, as Hartt supporters
come together to celebrate the dynamic community of
performing artists that is The Hartt School!

Faculty Accolades and Performances

|
|
Hartt Theatre Division faculty member Johanna
Morrison will perform the narration for the
Connecticut Concert Opera's upcoming production of
Lakmé, directed by Hartt faculty member Doris
Lang Kosloff. Click here

The Eric Alexander Quartet has released a new record
called Revival of the Fittest. The Quartet
consists of acclaimed bassist and Hartt Jazz faculty
member Nat Reeves; Eric Alexander, tenor
saxophone; jazz legend Harold Mabern, piano; and
Joe Farnsworth, drums. Revival of the Fittest
was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder, who has been
recording jazz for more than 50 years. In September,
The Eric Alexander Quartet performed in Kanazawa,
Japan.

Student and Alumni News

|
Gary LaPlant '75 was one eight exceptional
alumni were honored by the University of Hartford on
Saturday evening, October 3, at the 2009 Anchor
Awards ceremony, part of last weekend's
Homecoming festivities. Click here

As part of the Remarkable Theater Brigade (RTB)
Hartt alumni Sarah Larsen '09, violin, and
Keith Sanders, viola, performed at the Weill
Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, October 1,
in Opera Shorts, ten minute operas.
This summer students from Hartt's Theatre Division
were invited to supply voices for The Wadsworth
Athenaeum's Rembrandt exhibition which runs from
October 10 through 24. A guest experiencing this
exhibit can walk up to a painting and use his/her cell
phone to dial a number and listen to the students'
monologues as if the students were the subjects of
the paintings. The recordings were done on campus,
and The Wadsworth is very happy with the results.
Student participants include Kyle Brand,
Kyle Rudolph, Sarah Killough,
Chelsea Farthing, Michael Millan, and
Samantha Mitchell.
