Hartt Symphony Band- October 17
 

The Hartt School presents the Hartt Symphony Band on Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 PM in Millard Auditorium on the University of Hartford's West Hartford Campus. Under the direction of Matt Aubin, The Hartt Symphony Band presents "A Good, Ol' Fashioned Band Concert!" Guest conductors include James Jackson and Melanie Guerin. This concert will feature works by Dukas, Daugherty, Nelson, Grainger, and Sousa. Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups. An Evening with Guitar- October 22
 

The Hartt School presents An Evening with Guitar on Thursday, October 22, at 7:30 PM in Berkman Recital Hall on the University of Hartford's West Hartford campus. This performance features the students of Richard Provost. Admission is free. Viola Ensemble- October 18
 

The Hartt School Viola Ensemble will be performing at the Heublein Tower Toot on Sunday, October 18, at 12:30 PM. The Heublin Tower Toot is an annual fund- raiser that features kid friendly events, with food and drink for sale. Click here for more information.


Twelfth Night- October 15-18
 
Twelfth Night

The Hartt School presents Twelfth Night on Thursday, October 15, Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, October 18, at 3:00 PM. Performances are in the Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation Theater at the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford. Performance 20/20- October 24
 

Performance 20/20, Hartt's innovative honors chamber music program, will perform on Saturday, October 24, at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday, October 25, at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM in Berkman Auditorium in the Fuller Music Center on the University of Hartford's West Hartford campus. Concerts are free and open to the public. For more information visit www.hartford.edu/hartt. These concerts will feature beautiful live chamber music as well as video clips from the group's rehearsals.

Francine and Robert Goldfarb

On Friday, October 9, long-time Hartt supporter and current Board member Francine Goldfarb (pictured in Hartt's Organ Studio, with her husband Robert) was awarded the Alfred C. Fuller Medal for her service to The Hartt School.

Aaron Flagg, dean of The Hartt School, was the subject of the cover story in the West Hartford Life September issue. "I'm going to listen and facilitate honest discussions so we can get to action," Flagg said in the paper. "The first day I arrived I called every faculty member on staff to say hello and introduce myself. I don't think they expected that." Click here to read the story.

The Hartt Performance Library Music Sale will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, October 14 through October 30, 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM in Room 344 of the Fuller Music Center, on the University of Hartford's West Hartford campus. There will be music books, sheet music, and musical instruments available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale will help defray the operating costs of the Hartt Performance Library.


American Brass Quintet

The Hartt School will kick off the new Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series with a concert by the American Brass Quintet on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m., in Millard Auditorium. Click here for more information.


Faculty Accolades and Performances
 

Robert Carl, professor of composition and music theory at The Hartt School, was interviewed by the BBC about his book, Terry Riley's In C. Hartt piano student Anastasia Seifetdinova's recent CD, Grand Fantaisie on Russian Folksongs, released on the NAXOS label earlier this year, has received wonderful reviews. Seifetdinova currently is pursuing a Doctoral Degree with Professor Oxana Yablonskaya. Reviewers called Anastasia's work:

Community Division
 

On Thursday, October 22, at 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, The Hartt School Community Division will be offering free First Steps in Music Classes at its Simsmore Square branch in Simsbury as part of the Farmer's Market. An introduction to The Aston System for Musicians, a free workshop, will be offered on Saturday, October 24, at 1:00 PM. This workshop will help participants on improve body usage and performance, decrease injury, and increase enjoyment of their instruments. This introductory workshop will also teach participants how to find thier optimal playing position (each person's is different). Please bring two bath towels, instrument, and a desire to improve your playing. The location of this workshop is TBD.
