Dance Audition Requirements
The audition will consist of a 2-½ hour class incorporating classical ballet, pointe work for women, and modern work. Assessment is based on technical proficiency and quality of movement expression. The Hartt Dance Division is looking for dancers with evidence of strong training and strength in the following areas: turnout, leg extensions, flexibility (feet, hips, back), elevation, turns, pointe, eagerness to move in other non-balletic styles, and performance experience. Dance applicants will also interview with departmental faculty.
Dress Requirements:
- Women: solid-colored leotard, pink tights, pink ballet and pointe shoes.
- Men: black tights, white t-shirt or leotard, white socks with black or white ballet shoes.

Dance Audition by Video:
All Dance applicants who audition by video tape are REQUIRED to submit a DVD or VHS format videocassette showing the following from a ballet class: Barre - pliés, battement tendu/dégagé, ronde de jambe par terre and en l'air, adagio, frappé, grande battement, and a stretch. Center (must include some exercises en pointe) - tendu encroisse from first position and enface; with port de bras and pirouettes, adagio, and petite and grand allegro.
NO STAGE PERFORMANCE VIDEOS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
