Students who choose a concentration in Dance Performance have many opportunities to refine their skills. The Hartt Dance Division produces three main stage repertory programs each year. Students may audition for the Touring Ensemble, which performs in schools and other venues throughout the region, including Jacob’s Pillow in Lee, Massachusetts. Hartt Dancers were recognized in 1998 as one of five ensembles chosen at the New England Region American College Dance Festival to perform at the Kennedy Center as part of the National Festival. facilities at the School of dance Connecticut are only 10 minutes from the University of Hartford campus. Five dance studios, an opera and dance rehearsal studio, administrative offices, a dance library, a costume shop, a physical therapy consulting room, and dressing rooms are in this centrally located complex.
Students from the Dance Division have danced in professional productions of The Nutcracker, Giselle, Coppelia, The Sleeping Beauty, Serenade, and Romeo and Juliet, in Hartford and on tour. Both Connecticut Opera and The Hartt Opera Department regularly invite Dance Division students to perform in their productions.
