Undergraduate Admissions Process
1. Submit the University of Hartford and Hartt Supplemental Applications. They can be submitted by PDF, online (University of Hartford and Hartt Supplemental), or you may request a hard copy to be mailed to you.
2. Submit all additional application requirements, including:
- Essays (questions available on Hartt Supplemental Application )
- Two artistic letters of recommendation from teachers/professionals
- Application fees (checks payable to University of Hartford; waived for the December 5 audition)
- Performance resume (performance, dance, and theatre applicants)
- Repertoire list (instrumental and vocal performance/emphasis applicants only)
- Sample compositions (composition majors only—scores and recordings if available)
- Photo (headshot for theatre applicants, in concert attire for vocal applicants, in leotard and tights for dance applicants)
Please refer to the checklists found at the back of the Hartt Supplemental Application for complete requirements.
3. Send SAT/ACT scores and official transcripts from all high schools and universities from which you have earned credits.
4. The audition/interview date chosen on the Hartt Supplemental Application will be confirmed in writing once both applications have been processed.
For audition dates and application deadlines, click here .
5. After all students have completed the audition/interview, Hartt's faculty members will make the decisions on acceptance into the program and scholarship; the University then completes the academic review. The University requires a B average on transcripts and a combined 920 score on the SAT Critical Reading and Math portions, or a 19 composite score on the ACT, in order for their minimum academic requirements to be met (Hartt students averaged 1111 in 2008; the national average was 1017). Applicants must pass the audition/interview and the academic review in order to be accepted.
6. Undergraduate Quick Response decisions are made in December and will be postmarked by January 2, 2010. Decisions regarding an audition/interview on any other date will be made in March, and decision letters will be postmarked by April 1, 2010.
7. Accepted students who choose to attend The Hartt School must send in a tuition deposit postmarked by May 1, 2010.
