Part II — Choose Your Major and Audition Dates

Applicants are expected to focus on a single program of interest prior to making application.

Please note: Applicants to Music Education with classical piano, organ, or guitar may apply only to Music Education — Vocal Emphasis. Applicants will complete an instrumental and vocal audition. The Music Education major is not available to jazz applicants.

Recorded Audition Application deadline: January 15
  Recorded auditions are an option for applicants who are unable to attend the posted audition dates AND who live more than 300 miles from Hartford. It is not an option for prospective majors in Music Education, Music Theory, or prospective Dance majors who live in the U.S.A. Vocal performance, dance, and theatre applicants selecting this option must submit a standard VHS-format videocassette or DVD. Details for preparing and submitting tapes are found in the Audition by Video/Audio Policy document. All recordings must be postmarked by January 15.

Telephone Interview Application deadline: January 15
  Music applicants who live more than 300 miles from Hartford and who are not applying for Music Education or Music Theory may elect to interview by telephone. Audition recordings and original compositions (if required for your intended major) must be postmarked by January 15 before an interview will be scheduled. A faculty member will contact you to schedule your intervew. All telephone interviews must be completed by February 15.

Part V — Essay

ALL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE AN ESSAY REQUIREMENT. YOUR ESSAY SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN TWO TYPEWRITTEN PAGES.
