Amy Motson ('12)

Bachelor of Fine Arts, Dance - Performance Emphasis

Why I Chose Hartt

The Hartt School seemed like a second home to me the day I auditioned. The teachers and faculty were so welcoming and knowledgeable, and with the prospect of a brand new Performing Arts Center and additions to the teaching staff, I knew The Hartt School was my first choice college. Since I enrolled and began my first year of school as a member of the class of 2012, I know I made the right decision in The Hartt School. Everyday brings a new challenge, and the faculty with their amazing exper ience and impressive resumes are there to help every step of the way. The class sizes are small enough that every student is seen and corrected, and new opportunities are presented to them in order to make tremendous improvements and become more experienced throughout their college years. Personally, I have seen many positive changes in myself since joining The Hartt School family, including a more well-rounded dance education, better technique, and a healthier knowledge of who I am as a dancer and how I need to improve in order to make the transition from student to artist.

More about Amy

Amy Motson started dancing at the age of 6 at a local tap, jazz and ballet studio in Deptford, New Jersey. At 7, she was asked to be in the student performing company and participated in various dance competitions such as Tremaine, Dance Caravan, and NYCDA until she was 12. She then started studying ballet exclusively under the direction of David L. Gallagher at the Academy of Ballet NJ in Berlin, New Jersey. While there, she was taught by William DeGregory (current Artistic Director of Pennsylvania Ballet II) and Valerie Amiss (former soloist with Pennsylvania Ballet). She also performed corps de ballet and leading roles as a member of the company for 6 years in Ballet NJ's The Nutcracker and full spring productions of Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadare, and Swan Lake. Her past few summers have been spent at the Joffrey Ballet School and Boston Ballet School. Amy graduated The Hartt School at the University of Hartford with a BFA in dance performance in 2012.
