Children's Ballet and Tap
Children's Ballet and Children's Tap classes for children age 3-8 are a great way to interest, engage, stimulate, and focus a child's natural energy and expressiveness.
Our Discovery and Children's Ballet program is designed to open the world of dance to the young child using movement, creativity, socialization, and musical awareness. Students are encouraged to develop both gross and fine motor skills in a natural way. A sense of fun and purpose, together with the beginnings of technique, discipline, and theatrical awareness are vital parts of the program. In our Children's Ballet program, children learn that:
- Focused effort leads to results
- Stories can be told by moving to music
- Stretching, bending, reaching, and jumping to the beat is exhilarating
- The body can create beautiful shapes and lines
The Tiny Tap and Children's Tap program is designed to give children additional dance options to explore. Most classes are arranged to complement another class for the same age level, although enrollment in Children's Ballet is not required to participate in Children's Tap. Tap classes incorporate similar creative movement and space awareness exercises as Children's Ballet, but they have also been shown to add to ballet technique classes by incorporating more rhythmical depth, increased foot dexterity, musicality, and enhanced performance quality. Tap classes are also available for youth and adults, from beginner to advanced.
Children's Ballet and Children's Tap students perform at the end of the academic year, either in the studio or as part of larger Hartt Community Division dance productions, depending on the age and ability of the students.

Dance classes are held at the Mort & Irma Performing Arts Center, and at Simsmore Square in Simsbury.
