Tap II (9yrs – 15yrs)
Mondays, 5:00 pm–6:00 pm
Tap dance classes are a unique dance discipline in that they are characterized by using the sound of one’s shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. Tap dance steps and terminology are taught with an emphasis on proper technical execution for optimal sound quality and include additional focus on rhythm, musicality, agility, syncopation, and shading tempo change. Lower levels begin their training with a classic hoofing concentration while upper level classes incorporate a formal use of their upper body as associated with Broadway tap.
Ballet for Skaters
Tuesdays, 6:45–7:45pm
Classes in ballet technique complement a skater’s training and help to enhance their overall physicality, musicality, and gracefulness. Through these classes skaters develop coordination of arms and legs, body awareness that is required for improving rotations and jumps, and develop their artistic presentation.
New students may try a class for free before registering for the semester. For more information about placement and registration contact the Dance Department at (860)768-6000 or dancedesk@hartford.edu.
