“Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 is one of my favorite times of the week. One of the great joys and gifts in my life is the power of sharing music with others. Music allows us to communicate with one another in profound ways that are nearly impossible to describe with the written or spoken word. Every Sunday we come together to experience that which we can only experience when we are surrounded collectively by talented, passionate, and motivated students and teachers. Welcome to GHYWE, we expect a great deal from you but the rewards are worth it.”
—Glen Adsit, Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble Director
Listen to GHYWE
The Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble (GHYWE) is composed of dedicated high school students from southern New England. GHYWE performs repertoire ranging from traditional wind ensemble works by Percy Aldridge Grainger, to modern selections by Frank Ticheli. GHYWE originated in the 1950s from the Hartt Youth Symphonic Band and the Connecticut Valley Youth Wind Ensemble. This tradition of providing accomplished and driven high school musicians the opportunity to perform the exceptional wind ensemble repertoire continues today in GHYWE.
