Instrumental Ensembles
We have so many ways to make music with others.
Musicians can participate in a wide variety of performing ensembles at the Hartt Community Division. Wind ensembles include Harmony Winds, Philharmonia Winds, and the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble. For string players, orchestras include Stringendo, Sinfonia and the Suzuki String Orchestras (for Suzuki students). Students also have opportunities to perform in a full orchestra through Opus 89 and the Connecticut Youth Symphony.
Chamber ensembles allow musicians to hone ensemble skills in a small, collegial atmosphere. We offer them for young students and adults.
Percussionists may participate in the Latin Jazz Percussion Ensemble.
Auditions for all instrumental ensembles and chamber groups are held each year in early June. Depending on available openings, students can schedule individual audition appointments throughout the year.
We want every student to have a positive and valuable experience in our ensembles. Auditions allow us to place students in an ensemble appropriate for their level. Students may be offered multiple positions within our ensemble program.
