Instrumental Ensembles

Instrumental Ensembles

The Hartt School Community Division offers a wide variety of performing ensembles. Our wind ensembles include Harmony Winds, Philharmonia Winds, and the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble. Our string orchestras include Stingendo, Sinfonia and the Suzuki String Orchestras (for Suzuki students). Students also have opportunities to perform in a full orchestra through Opus 89 and the Connecticut Youth Symphony.

Chamber ensembles, for young students and adults alike, are a opportunity to hone ensemble skills in a small, collegial atmosphere.

Placement

Auditions for all instrumental ensembles and chamber groups are held each year in June. Students will be placed in an ensemble appropriate for their level. It is possible for students to be offered multiple positions within our ensemble program. The purpose of these auditions is to ensure that each student will have a positive and valuable experience at The Hartt School through appropriate placement in our large ensemble program.

Instrumental auditions have already been held for the 2011-2012 year. Some ensembles may still have openings available. We will place students taking late auditions as possible according to ensemble availability and ensemble director's consent. Please contact Emmett Drake at drake@hartford.edu to schedule an audition.
Please explore our ensemble pages to find out more about our ensemble programs. For additional information, contact the Hartt Community Division at (860) 768-4451 or harttcomm@hartford.edu.
