First Steps in Music
First Steps in Music runs a one-month session in July where children, ages 0-5, are introduced to music through singing, playing, and moving to sounds with their parents and classmates. We also run Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions during the academic year. Click here for information about the next First Steps in Music session.
The Hartt Community Division Dance Department offers weekly dance classes for children and adults during the summer months for adult ballet, jazz, and tap classes (for age 15+) as well as ballet classes for age 3-8.
Meet the Masters: Summer Jazz Workshop
The University of Hartford, Hartt School Community Division invites jazz instrumentalists and vocalists to attend our annual Meet the Masters: Summer Jazz Workshop. This intensive 5-day summer program allows participants to rehearse and study with internationally recognized educators and musicians toward a public performance by all participants at the end of our workshop

The Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Professional Program
The Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Professional Program provides a pre-professional musical theatre experience for talented and motivated performing artists from across the country who wish to pursue a career in musical theatre.

The Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Junior Program provides an outstanding musical theatre experience for talented and motivated performing artists in grades 4-8.

From Studio to Stage
From Studio to Stage is designed to train serious young dancers, ages 11 and up, with a foundation in solid ballet technique.

***Please note that children who are 11 years old will audition for FSTS II. The student may be moved up to FSTS at the discretion of the Artistic Director.

The Hartt School Community Division offers private music instruction from highly qualified faculty who specialize on their individual instrument. The summer schedule for private lessons is flexible so you and your teacher can plan around family vacations and summer activities.

Summer Masterclasses for the Developing Musician
Summer Masterclasses for the Developing Musician are one-week intensive programs focused on the Middle and High School strings, wind, brass, and percussion student. These classes are designed to challenge students, encouraging them to reach their potential in a positive and supportive environment. Now with a full-day option for middle school students!

Hartt Suzuki Institute
The Hartt Suzuki Institute includes classes for both students and teachers. Students experience focused study on their instrument, while teachers will study the repertory, philosophy, and methods introduced by the respected Japanese educator Shinichi Suzuki. All teacher workshop courses are taught by specialists who are registered teacher trainers with the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).

Young Composers Project: Summer Edition
The Hartt Community Division is excited to announce The Young Composers Project Summer Edition, a new intensive workshop for students interested in writing music to be held August 1-5, 2016. For this first year, the workshop’s theme will be Art Song, and all participants will create a new song for voice and piano over the course of the week, culminating in a final performance. Students will be given instruction on writing for voice, creating accompaniments, working with text, structuring a song, and more. They will work in small groups and one-on-one with YCP Director Jessica Rudman to develop their pieces, and their pieces-in-progress will be workshopped by performance faculty multiple times during the week, so students can see their compositions come to life as they are working on them.
