Summer Programs

The Hartt Community Division offers extraordinary performing arts programs each summer.

First Steps in Music runs a one-month session in July where children, ages 0-5, are introduced to music through singing, playing, and moving to sounds with their parents and classmates.  Classes meet on July 6, July 13, July 20, and July 27.

Summer Masterclasses for the Developing Musician are one-week intensive programs focused on the Middle and High School wind, brass, and percussion student. These classes are designed to challenge students, encouraging them to reach their potential in a positive and supportive environment. Our highly regarded and experienced faculty guide students through three-hours of small group instruction on solo and ensemble repertoire, technique, and instrument-specific skills. These masterclasses, unique to Connecticut, culminate in a concert for family and friends. They run from August 12th to August 16th, 2013.

The Summer Vocal Institute: Musical Theater Intensive is a personalized performance program for singers, actors, and dancers who want to improve their vocal, dramatic, and dance skills. In 2013, SVI:MTI will run from July 1 to July 12 with the Final Showcase Performance on July 12 at 7:30 pm.

The Hartt Suzuki Institute includes classes for both students and teachers. Students experience focused study on their instrument, while teachers will study the repertory, philosophy, and methods introduced by the respected Japanese educator Shinichi Suzuki. All teacher workshop courses are taught by specialists who are registered teacher trainers with the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA). Applicants who qualify as participants, complete required observations, and attend all sessions will be able to register these courses with the SAA . This year it runs from August 3rd to August 11th, 2013.

The David Einfeldt Chamber Music Seminar is an intensive summer music experience offering a dynamic combination of individual lessons, coachings, masterclasses, instrumental ensembles, orchestra, and rehearsals with the quartet in residence and our outstanding string faculty. Stay tuned for more information.

Our Summer Dance Programs are also available for a wide range of students, offering continued studied in classes modeled after our core programs that run during the school year. Stay tuned for information about summer dance schedules and registration.
