The training and coaching that SVI provides was some of the most valuable time I ever spent in my pre-college training.

—Chris, NYU Graduate ‘07

When I first came to SVI:MTI I was very nervous mostly because I knew I was one of the youngest kids there. I didn’t think I would really do well actually. But after I had been there for a couple days, I began to feel welcome and I started to enjoy my time there. I made a few friends, which I didn’t expect, and I think it was a wonderful way to spend my summer. All the directors and faculty were very friendly and funny people who I look forward to seeing next year, along with all the kids. I learned a lot from SVI and it really helped me with my singing, acting, and dancing. To sum my experience at SVI up in one sentence, I would have to say that SVI was challenging, but one of the most enjoyable summer programs I have ever been to. I can’t wait to come back next year!

—Gina, 2011 SVI:MTI Participant

SVI:MTI helped me understand how to ‘physical-ize’ a character, which I had never thought about before, and it helped me have more presence and purpose onstage. I became so much more aware of my body onstage and how to make even small movements clear and meaningful.

—Katie, 2011 SVI:MTI Participant

Emma Tattenbaum – Fine’s acting classes were fabulous! Emma taught us how to concentrate better when working with other actors and just how to be more energetic on stage.

—Matt, 2011 SVI:MTI Participant

The directors were so incredibly kind and caring for the needs of everyone in the company.

—Christine, 2011 SVI:MTI Participant

The Summer Vocal Institute is the best college preparation program available for young singers and actors. The program enriched and perfected my developing voice, giving me a distinct edge on other college performers. The rigorous training is essential to anyone pursuing a career in theater. Through this program we were privileged to meet and work with a faculty comprised of active musicians, coaches, Broadway performers and directors. Not only did SVI offer me superior training, it introduced me to a network of professional performers, coaches and colleagues who are still in touch several years later. More importantly, SVI provided me with the training, focus and fundamentals that I have used to build a career as an active New York City musician.

—Tom, Wagner College graduate, currently a professional New York City musician on and off Broadway
