Email: marcsoon@aol.com

Biography: Bassoonist Marc Goldberg received his bachelor's and master's degrees from The Juilliard School as a student of Harold Goltzer. Upon graduating, he embarked upon a varied and wide-reaching career, rapidly becoming one of New York's most active freelance musicians and developing a close relationship with a number of Lincoln Center organizations. Currently principal bassoonist of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra and a member of the New York Woodwind Quintet in residence at The Juilliard School, he was associate principal bassoonist of the New York Philharmonic from 2000-2002 and acting principal bassoonist of the New York City Opera from 2004-2005. Mr. Goldberg has regularly appeared with groups such as the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Musicians from Marlboro, and Orchestra of St. Luke's, performing concerts with these ensembles across four continents. Other area activities included seven years with the New Jersey Symphony, Broadway shows, commercial and movie recording, and engagements with such diverse artists as Joni Mitchell, Sting, James Taylor, and Joe Jackson. This year he accepts two new positions, principal bassoonist with the Stamford Symphony and a section position with the American Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Goldberg first appeared as soloist in 1983 with the Brandenburg Ensemble in Boston's Symphony Hall and as part of the Great Performer's Series in New York's Avery Fisher Hall. Since then he has appeared with the New York Chamber Soloists in North and South America, the New York Symphonic Ensemble in Asia, and in the New York area with the Orchestra of St, Luke's, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the American Symphony Chamber Orchestra, Long Island Philharmonic, NY Scandia Symphony, and Sea Cliff Chamber Players. He has been a guest of the Da Camera Society of Houston, the Zankel Band at Carnegie Hall, toured with the New York Woodwind Quintet, the Brentano Quartet, and premiered numerous works with the Chelsea Chamber Ensemble and Ensemble Sospeso.

As a recording artist, Mr. Goldberg is featured on a recent release of the Crusell Trio Concertante with the New York Scandia Symphony. Mr. Goldberg has also recorded chamber music and symphonic repertoire with Orpheus, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, Musicians from Marlboro, ASO, ACO, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Concordia, Eos, Chelsea Chamber Ensemble, and on musical scores for more than two dozen films and cast albums for three Broadway shows.

In great demand as a teacher, Mr. Goldberg is a longtime faculty member of The Juilliard School and The Hartt School; he also teaches at Mannes College, The Bard College Conservatory of Music, and Columbia University. He has held master classes at Manhattan School of Music, Oberlin, North Carolina School of the Arts, Emory University, and been a guest artist at the Popkin Glickman Bassoon Camp. He currently lives in Westchester County with his wife, NYC Opera flutist and fellow Hartt Faculty Janet Arms, and their daughter, Jesse.
