
Warren Haston

Biography: Warren Haston is Assistant Professor of Music Education at The Hartt School, University of Hartford. He holds a Ph.D. in music education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He received a Master of Music in performance-conducting and a Bachelor of Music degree in music education, with high honors, from the University of Texas at El Paso. Prior to his work at The Hartt School, Dr. Haston taught music education at Georgia State University, and elementary, middle, and high school band in the public schools in El Paso, Texas, and Fairfax County, Virginia for 9 years. He is active as a clinician, adjudicator, and conductor. Dr. Haston's research interests include teacher education and instrumental pedagogy. Dr. Haston has presented papers at state, regional, and national conferences, including the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference, the College Music Society Annual Meeting, and the SMTE Symposium. He has published papers in the Journal of Music Teacher Education and Music Educators Journal. As a saxophone player, he has performed with the El Paso Wind Symphony, El Paso Pro-Musica Chamber Group and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, as well as with guest artists David Hickman, Sam Pilafian, Kwang Wu Kim, The Four Tops, Frankie Valli, Lou Rawls, Joel Grey, Crystal Gayle and Johnny Mathis. Dr. Haston has performed with the University of Texas at El Paso Jazz Lab Bands at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, the North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Haag, Netherlands and with guest artists Clark Terry, Carl Fontana, Chris Vadala and Bobby Shew.
