Biography: B.A., City College of New York
Born in Brooklyn, New York.
Attended Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan.
Graduated with a degree in speech and drama from The City College of New York.
Began vocal studies with master voice teacher Paul Gavert in 1970. Among Paul Gavert's many celebrated students were Betty Buckley, Len Cariou, Glenn Close, Joel Grey and Donna McKechnie.
Appeared in original New York productions of such shows as Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as national tours, stock productions, concerts and recordings. Planner appeared as a vocal soloist with the Traverse Symphony in Michigan in the summers of 2001 and 2002.
Became teaching protégé of Paul Gavert in 1979, and over the last 24 years Mark's students have performed on Broadway and National Tours of 42nd Street, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Tommy, Les Miserables, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Miss Saigon, Jekyll & Hyde, Rent, Ragtime, Cabaret, The Lion King, The Music Man, Oklahoma, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mama Mia, and Urinetown, among many others.
Since September of 1996, Planner has been on the voice faculty of The Hartt School (Music Theatre Department).
