Opera News says, "Korby Myrick has emerged in a series of roles as a spectacular stage personality with a dusky mezzo and exotic looks." The Tucson Citizen wrote, "her rendering of the Berio songs was masterful, tossing off their extreme demands for range, vocal agility, and color to dramatic effect." Ms. Myrick performs throughout the United States and Europe with such companies as Théâtre de l'Opera de Nice, Teatro Bellini in Italy, Spoleto Festival USA and Italy, Washington National Opera, Cambridge Festival in England, Tulsa Opera, Opera Carolina, Fresno Grand Opera, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Opera Theatre of Connecticut, and has sung over forty roles with the Arizona Opera Company.
Her roles have included Carmen in
Carmen, Laura in
La Gioconda, Dorabella in
Cosi Fan Tutte, Principessa in
Suor Angelica, and Madame Flora in
The Medium. She has recently added several dramatic mezzo roles to her repertoire, including Amneris in
Aida, Princess Eboli in
Don Carlo, Dalila in Samson et Dalila, and Azucena in
Il Trovatore. Future engagements include Azucena in
Il Trovatore at Opera Naples, Katisha in
The Mikado at the Indianapolis Opera, and Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra.
A noted concert artist, Ms. Myrick made her Avery Fisher Hall debut as the alto soloist in the Bach B Minor Mass. She has appeared as a soloist with Spoleto Festival, both in the U.S. and Italy, the Phoenix Symphony, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, New Haven Symphony, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Musica Sacra, Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, New Haven Chorale, and Norwalk Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Myrick holds an M.M. in voice and a B. Mus. in piano performance from the University of Arizona. She has taught voice and served as coach/rehearsal pianist at the Tirolean Opera Program in Maurach, Austria and at Opera in the Ozarks, and has been on the faculties of Wesleyan Univeristy and Pima Community College in Tucson, where she was also head of the opera department. She has had a thriving private voice studio for many years in Tucson and more recently in Connecticut and New York City. She is a member of the voice faculty at The Hartt School.
