Richard Hereld earned a B.Mus. in piano performance at the Eastman School of Music and an M.A. in musicology at the University of Toronto. He studied accompanying with Heifetz' accompanist, Brooks Smith, and attended master classes with Martin Iseep, Thomas Muraco, and Dalton Baldwin. He has taught at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, the University of Toronto, York University, and the University of Victoria (Canada). He has been a staff accompanist at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Central Connecticut State University, and has served as accompanist in the studios of Leonard Treash, Louis Quilico, Richard Cross, and various instrumental faculty at the Yale School of Music.He has been on The Hartt School accompanying staff since 2008.
Mr. Hereld has accompanied solo, choral, cantorial, and operatic performances in the U.S. and Canada. He has seved as répétiteur for Toronto Opera Repertoire and Opera Theater of Connecticut. Other recent engagements have included accompanying a duet recital in London, all-Brahms and all-Mozart concerts in Tucson, Arizona, and "An Evening at the Opera" at Choate Rosemary Hall. Upcoming engagements include performances in Tucson and at the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Hereld is also a composer of works for voice, piano, chorus, and string orchestra. His song cycle "A Sametenem Ponim", was recently published by Transcontinental Music Publications (New York).
