Stuart Younse

Artist Teacher- Choral Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy

Stuart Younse serves on the Music Education faculty at The Hartt School, as director of choirs at Simsbury High School, and as artistic director of the Connecticut Children's Chorus. One of Dr. Younse's passions is helping young music educators begin their careers in the classroom. Dr. Younse was instrumental in forming the Hartt/Simsbury partnership through which he teaches Choral Methods to Hartt students in a laboratory setting at the high school. He also serves on the performance faculty at Hartt, conducting the Hartt Choir. At Simsbury High School, Dr. Younse conducts three choirs, teaches three levels of theatre, and serves as director of the SHS Musical Theatre. He directs the Concert Choir of the Connecticut Children's Chorus and oversees the artistic vision of the program which consists of five choral ensembles.

Dr. Younse received a Bachelors of Music Education from the University of North Texas, a Master of Arts in vocal pedagogy from the Texas Woman's University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in music education from the University of North Texas. Choirs under Dr. Younse's direction have performed for the Texas Music Educator's Association, the Eastern Division of the National Organization for Music Education (MENC), and the Eastern Division of the Organization of American Kodály Educators. In addition, Dr. Younse's choirs have toured throughout the United States, England, and continental Europe. Dr. Younse is a frequent clinician and adjudicator throughout the northeast and Texas.
