The Hartt School celebrates composer and Professor Emeritus Edward Diemente’s 90th birthday with a special performance by Foot in the Door, Hartt’s contemporary music ensemble, featuring Diemente’s own work, on Wednesday, December 5, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater on the University of Hartford campus, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT. There is no charge for this event. More information can be found at www.hartford.edu/hartt.
Foot in the Door, directed by Glen Adsit and Edward Cumming, will perform works by Diemente spanning more than 40 years, scored for a variety of instrumental ensembles. The ensemble performs three of his works, including “The Way to Peace”, “Diary”, and “More Words”. The program also includes music by two of his former students and current Hartt faculty members, David Macbride and Ken Steen. Come help celebrate this most auspicious occasion.
Edward Diemente was born in Rhode Island in 1923 and received musical training from Boston University, (the then) Hartt College of Music, and the Eastman School of Music. His principal teacher was composer Isadore Freed, who was a pupil of Vincent D'Indy (himself a pupil of César Franck).
Diemente presently is Professor Emeritus of the University of Hartford, where he taught at The Hartt School for more than forty years.
