Dance Performing Ensembles
All ensembles for dance majors are taught at the glorious new Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, which opened in September, 2008. View performance excerpts below!
Hartt's Dance Division produces two main-stage concerts every year showcasing students in the works of hte most significant choreographers past and present. Concerts are fully produced and often in collaboration with the live music from the Hartt Music Division. In addition, dance students perform in Musical Theater and Opera productions as well as in an ever expanding roster of mentored interdisciplinary collaborative events.
While matriculating to graduation, students in good standing are selected and paid to perform with many professional companies including our resident modern dance performance ensemble, Full Force Dance Theatre, and Eastern Connecticut Ballet.
|Senior Composition Concert|
As part of their composition curriculum, senior dance majors present two black box concerts of tehir choreography each year. They hold auditions and cast their undergraduate classmates in their work. The educational experience exactly mirrors that of a professional choreographer's responisbilities, including presenting artistic ideas, working with wardrobe staff and production crew, and designing their own lighting. Students also commission solo choreography from professional choreographers for this performance.
