Recording Studio

The Hartt Recording Studio is an educational facility with the means to produce audition tapes, demo CDs, and other recorded projects. The staff is made up of experienced students majoring in Music Production & Technology and is overseen by the Studio Manager, Kathleen MacHose. The Studio Office is located in room 345.

Recitals

To schedule a recital recording, please follow these steps:

  1. Book the recital date, time, venue and venue setup with Leonard Bretton of Hartt Operations.
  2. Once date, time and venue are confirmed, contact the Studio Manager to schedule the recital information on the recording calendar. This needs to happen at least two weeks before the recital is to take place - any later than that, the availability of an engineer cannot be guaranteed.
  3. If there are any technical requirements for the recital, please make sure to alert the recording studio at the time of the booking.

The Recording Studio must be notified at least TWO WEEKS in advance of a recital recording.

Recording sessions

Recording sessions need to be planned and booked well in advance of the actual session.

Please take these steps to schedule a session:

  1. Plan out the music to be recorded to determine the amount of time needed for the recording. We suggest booking an hour of recording time for every ten minutes of finished music that is needed. For example, if three pieces are being recorded, which will add up to fifteen minutes on a CD, then at least two hours should be booked. Time that is booked but not used will not be charged for.
  2. Select three (3) recording dates for the session for which all  participants involved, i.e. performer, teacher, accompanist, etc. will be available.
  3. Call the Recording Studio Manager at least two weeks before the first selected recording time. The booking of the venue and the recording studio will be done at the same time. The Studio Manager can determine venue availability for the three possible dates. Once a date has been set and booked, the Studio Manager will email a receipt of confirmation to the client.
  4. Clients are asked to contact the Studio Manager a few days before the scheduled session to re-confirm the date, time, place and engineer.

The staff are experienced students majoring in Music Production & Technology, and will make every effort to be professional and helpful throughout the recording process.
