Music Theatre

Hartt's BFA in Musical Theatre program incorporates professional educational development and experience through advanced training in music, acting, and dance. The rigorous curriculum includes courses in acting, music theory, ear training, piano, weekly private voice lessons and coachings, and two years each of ballet, tap, and jazz. The program develops in students the skills and techniques necessary for the transition to the competitive world of professional theatre. Hartt's innovative program offers its students professional theatre experience with Goodspeed Musicals and a network of contacts through weekly master classes, faculty connections, and the senior showcase performed for agents, casting directors, and managers in New York City.

The Hartt School produces more than five musical theatre productions annually ranging from new works to frequently revived classics. Participation in new musicals gives students the opportunity to see and share in the development of a new production, guided by the playwright and composer, from start to finish. Experience in these productions, as well as studio productions, practice the training taught by Hartt's acclaimed faculty. The Hartt School/Goodspeed Musicals Residency offers senior musical theatre students the opportunity to audition for Goodspeed's artistic staff and participate in the development of new works in a professional theatre setting.
